Pergola systems are retractable roof systems that protect terraces, gardens and outdoor business areas from rain and sun, opening and closing whenever you need. At Sunrise Tente we manufacture every pergola to the size, orientation and use of the space in our workshop in Başiskele, Kocaeli, and install it with our own team.
What is a pergola and where is it used?
A pergola consists of load-bearing aluminium or steel profiles, a waterproof cover that runs on rails and gutters that collect rainwater. Closed, it protects the area from rain and snow; open, it brings back the sky. Outdoor spaces become usable all year round, not only in summer.
- Restaurants and cafés: keep garden and terrace tables open in every season.
- Hotels: controlled shade for pool sides, terrace bars and breakfast areas.
- Villas and houses: turn garden seating areas and verandas into sheltered living space.
- Commercial spaces: entrance canopies, waiting areas and outdoor sales points.
Bioclimatic pergola

In a bioclimatic pergola the roof is made of aluminium louvres that rotate on their own axis instead of a fabric cover. Adjusting the angle of the louvres controls how much sunlight and air comes in. When the louvres are fully closed the roof shuts against rain, and water drains through the louvre channels and the gutters inside the frame.
- Light and air control: opening the louvres lets warm air escape upwards, keeping the shaded area cool in summer.
- Permanent aluminium roof: a clean, modern look with no fabric to replace.
- Motorised operation: louvres are rotated by remote control; LED lighting and automation can be added on request.
- Four-season use: sides can be closed with zip screens or glass systems.
A fabric pergola is the more economical choice for wide spans and opens the roof completely; a bioclimatic pergola suits villas, hotels and restaurants that want gradual light and air control and a permanent modern roof. We assess both options during the site visit. For details and project photos, see our Bioclimatic Pergola page.

Frequently asked questions
Can a pergola be used in rain and winter?
Yes. Closed, the cover is waterproof and rainwater drains through the gutters. With zip screens or glass on the sides, the area can be heated and used in winter.
Should a pergola be motorised?
Motorised operation is recommended for large spans and businesses that open and close the roof often.
What is the difference between a pergola and an awning?
An awning is usually fixed to the façade and opened with arms. A pergola is a structure with load-bearing profiles and a retractable roof that, with side enclosures, can be used all year.
