A bellows awning (accordion awning) opens and closes with separate metal profiles gathered at one point like a fan, resembling an accordion. Fabric is fitted on an aluminium or metal frame to protect balconies, windows and shopfronts from sun, wind and rain.
Why a bellows awning?
- More protection: it covers the front and sides, protecting balconies better than an articulated awning.
- Budget-friendly: more labour but less material, so it is usually more affordable.
- Adjustable size: length and leg length are set to your needs without blocking the view.
Fabrics
Acrylic and polyester awning fabrics are used. Blackout fabric is not used on bellows awnings: it is thick, creases when folding and makes operation difficult.
For a more modern balcony look see Win awnings or cassette awnings; for a fully enclosed balcony see zip screens.
